The Society of Women Engineers is the largest non-profit educational and service organization representing both student and professional women in engineering and technical fields.

Welcome to our Northwest Florida SWE webpage!

As of July a new board has been elected and is very excited to charge into the new year. We have many exciting events planned for students and for our professional members. There will be many opportunities to volunteer to help with one event or even become a SWE leader and become part of our outreach, fundraising, membership or scholarship committees. We do not pressure people to volunteer, and truly just enjoy seeing people have fun at our events.

Our first meeting in 2009 was on July 25th! We had some great webinar training at the offices of Critical Path Mechanics, Inc who also donated the breakfast and lunch. The SWE Leadership Committee gave several training sessions, including Inclusive Organizations, presented by our President Christine Buziak, PE. After the training, our board members discussed many exciting opportunities and activities for the upcoming year including:

  • Sep 26, 2009 -- the SWE UWF Collegiate Section has invited all SWE professionals to participate in a workshop and social at UWF in the Conference Center Lounge from 1100am to 1:00 p.m.

  • Oct 15-19, 2009 -- 3 professional members will attend WE09, the annual International Conference for SWE members in Long Beach, CA

  • Oct/Nov 2009 -- Fall social, mentoring, and fundraising event.

  • Mar 2010 -- SWE Region D conference in Memphis TN March 2010. Plan to attend!!

Coming soon.....

  • Habitat for Humanity Women's build (see Community Outreach)

  • Feb 2010 Engineers Week

  • Spring 2010 -- The Annual West Panhandle Regional Science and Engineering Fair for middle and high school students at UWF. Adult volunteers needed! Email sciencefair@uwf.edu with questions or requests for more information

  • Spring 2010 Math Counts -- judging opportunities at this Florida Engineering Society sponsored event.

  • I Love Science--hands-on experiments for fifth grade classes at Lewis Middle School just outside the Eglin Air Force Base (see Community Outreach). We will be exploring opportunities for this in Pensacola also.

  • UWF Summer Camps -- mentorship opportunities.
We really are focusing on encouraging students to get excited about careers in math and science! Please contact us if you would like to participate in any of these events.

We've updated the FY10 Section Officers but we still have open positions.  We'd love to have you participate!
